About XSK

Compatible environment for SAP HANA Extended Application Services (XS) based applications, it is deployed outside of SAP HANA instance as a Docker container on Kubernetes. XSK is an open-source project providing a custom Eclipse Dirigible stack coming with XSC engine type. The engine is based on the standard Dirigible's JavaScript engine with several enhancements.

The Challenge

The tech challenge is to create a better environment and to improve the current support and future development of XS based applications, thus favouring the development teams, business owners, and end clients. The implementation has to solve the following problems:

  • Scaling out horizontally
  • Migrating existing XS applications
  • Writing parsers for the custom DSLs
  • Preserving the existing artefacts, APIs, and development model

Quanterall's Work on XSK

Quanterall's team has a key role in the development process of the XSK and our experts work in collaboration with experts from SAP on both front-end and back-end. Our DevOps engineers also have the important task of researching, configuring, and introducing tools and processes to keep the system stable and working. One of the important tasks that the Quanterall team has been challenged with, is the development of a single-step guided migration for the already existing XS applications.

Joining the team, our developers had to swiftly get into the technology, adapt to the work pace, and find the most convenient way to upgrade the existing system and make it more sustainable.

Quanterall's work on XSK allows more businesses and clients to take advantage of the exclusive solutions of SAP and impacts future development because of the improvements and optimisations of the processes and workflows.
